Raku Firing
I only have limited experience with Raku firing, but today I fired a few pieces to see where to head next. The kiln is made from an Ikea bin, and fires with wood, which saves messing around with gas bottles. Also I have heaps of trees, and found that eucalyptus wood was the best of those I tried. The cup with seed pods was supposed to be naked raku, but only one flake of glaze/slip fell off. Even so, I really like it and will try again. Smooth surfaces only from now on. The big disappointment was my yarn bowl which exploded. I suppose I should have glazed it yesderday (or earlier) and warmed it up.
